The work
Sun
A globe of the Sun for about the last month, painted with NASA SDO images.
Sun is an Android app. The home screen is the globe: drag, pinch, double-tap to face the Earth, play or scrub, pull to refresh. Layers are the SDO/AIA wavelengths, the continuum images, the HMI line-of-sight magnetogram, and a Doppler layer recoloured as a display called “Electrical dynamics.” The Earth-facing side is the observation at the time on the slider. The far side is a composite of other stored frames, not a photograph from behind the Sun.
Images are public JPEGs from NASA’s SDO browse archive, saved on the phone. They are for looking, not for measuring gauss or kilometres per second. The Doppler colouring is a stretch for the screen, not a calibrated speed and not an electric-field map. Credit on the app is NASA/SDO and the AIA, EVE, and HMI teams. There is no store listing in the project.
