Cam World
Live public traffic and webcam images on a globe, from a licence-clean catalogue.
Cam World is a Flutter app, Android first, and a companion to Earth Circuit. It uses the same kind of globe, and instead of weather it shows a curated, licence-clean catalogue of public live streams and still cameras from transport agencies and observatories. It opens on the whole Earth, centred on the phone’s location, draped with NASA Blue Marble. Closer in, NASA GIBS and EOX Sentinel-2 cloudless tiles sharpen the view, with an OpenStreetMap line and label overlay, and a credit for the layer that is showing. Zoomed out, the globe shows how many cameras are in view. Zoomed in, a still camera is a picture icon and a live stream is a camera icon.
Four windows sit above the globe in portrait and beside it in landscape. They start as the four cameras closest to you. Tapping a marker loads that camera into the top-left window and shifts the ones that are not pinned. Tapping a window pins it. A fullscreen icon opens one camera on its own, and only one video plays at a time. The next open restores the centre, the zoom, and those four windows, including which are pinned, without asking for location again or fetching the image addresses again. If location is refused, the control shows a red cross, the counts still load, and the globe stays on the whole Earth until you move it. A separate Windy layer is requested only for a locality you have zoomed into. Those images are used live, with Windy’s credit, and are not stored in the catalogue. The phone loads each picture from the agency. The catalogue server does not send the image or the video.
